Irving Shipbuilding has been a proud member of J.D. Irving, Limited group of companies for over 50 years, building quality vessels and fabricated modules that have contributed to Canada's current combatant fleet. Halifax Shipyard has been at the forefront of Canadian shipbuilding for over 130 years and feels immense pride as they work to deliver Canada's modern patrol ships and surface combatants to the Royal Canadian Navy. To showcase these stories of pride, impact, and craftsmanship, Irving Shipbuilding Inc is seeking a new Director, Communications to join their executive leadership team. This position presents a momentous opportunity for a creative storyteller to make an indelible impact on Irving Shipbuilding's legacy in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Reporting directly to the President, the Director, Communications is responsible for developing and leading the overall communications strategy both external and internally, employee and shipyard special events, public relations and the social media efforts of Irving Shipbuilding Inc. This strategic position also oversees all internal employee communications, and external stakeholder communications and manages the social media messaging and presence. Lastly, the Director, Communications maintains constant contact with all the various functional disciplines to ensure a broader understanding on the communication needs of the Shipyard and refine the various communication channels and messaging to ensure an effective delivery.
The successful candidate will be exceptional at relationship management, have outstanding people skills, and is eager to put their stamp on the legacy of shipbuilding in Canada. The Director, Communications must have a degree in communications or marketing and can organize and maintain a strong line of communication across various teams in the organization. Public events, media coordination, and internal and external communication are critical to the success of this role. The successful candidate must possess a team-oriented mindset and thrive in collaborative environments to ensure that all project components are completed efficiently. Embracing this role entails placing a high value on the pride and esteem inherent in evolving the story and experience of North America’s most modern shipyard right here in Halifax.
