Executive Director, HCi3 - EfficiencyOne (Filled)

HCi3 is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in late 2020 and established as a wholly owned subsidiary of EfficiencyOne, a national leader in the design and delivery of energy efficiency programs and services. HCi3’s purpose is investing in a net-zero Halifax for everyone. Together with partners, our mission is to accelerate and enable the uptake of measurable, equitable, and meaningful climate solutions by financing scalable projects. HCi3 is a member of Low Carbon Cities Canada (LC3) - a network of seven local centres across Canada, partnered with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM). With a shared mandate, the LC3 Network is working together toward a net-zero future in a way that advances equity, resilience, and community well-being.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Board of Directors of HCi3 and the Executive Leadership Team of EfficiencyOne, the Executive Director (ED) will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the successful operation of HCi3 and reporting on compliance and fund results. The ED will act as a thought leader who understands the connection between local climate action and opportunities for global impact, thereby embracing the opportunity for HCi3 to play a central role in financing urban low-carbon projects and scaling them through innovative investment solutions. This individual will lead the development, evaluation, and execution of HCi3 programs, as well as the strategic planning and implementation process in consultation with the CEO, Board of Directors, Advisory Group, Investment Committee, and others.

As Executive Director, you bring a passion for climate action and the need to move to a low carbon economy and net zero by 2050. A natural people leader, you have 10 years’ experience in a senior operational and/or business leadership role, preferably in the field of climate change, sustainable energy, or impact investing. You bring a high degree of financial and investment acumen and have demonstrated experience working closely with a Board of Directors. You are a goal-oriented and ambitious self-starter who builds strong and trusted relationships. You combine long-term, strategic thinking with established systems and processes that enable you to oversee and manage day-to-day operations. You use your entrepreneurial mindset to “look around corners” to anticipate future risks, emerging trends and best practices, and opportunities for impact. You embody values of integrity, innovation and partnership and have a proven track record of working in a transparent, responsible, equitable, curious, and collaborative way. You are driven to build momentum, remove barriers, and advance climate action for the communities you serve.
