The Prince Edward Island Nurses’ Union (PEINU) has proudly represented the voices of Registered Nurses since 1974, promoting and protecting their well-being in the workplace and their right to deliver high-quality public health services with honour, respect, and dignity.
A member of the Canadian Federation of Nurses’ Unions and affiliated with the Canadian Labour Congress, today PEINU represents more than 1,350 Registered Nurses working in acute care, long term care, community care, mental health and addictions. PEINU is committed to being a strong, credible and respected ambassador for Registered Nurses and quality health care in the province, negotiating, administrating and improving the Collective Agreement for the benefit of workplaces and PEI’s health care.
Today PEINU, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual as their new Labour Relations Specialist. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Labour Relations Specialist will play a crucial role in fostering a positive working culture within the union and supporting the relationship between the union, its members, and key stakeholders. As the central point of contact and resource for union members and the executive council, the successful candidate will assume a pivotal role, encompassing responsibilities such as overseeing education initiatives, interpreting collective bargaining agreements, facilitating grievances, and fostering collaborative relationships with diverse healthcare employers in Prince Edward Island. The role demands a focus on fortifying the foundation for membership, professionalism, and resilience, and actively promoting leadership, advocacy, and credibility.
To qualify for this position, you must hold a post-secondary degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, or Labour Studies. A minimum of five years of related work experience in labour relations and/or human resources within a unionized environment is required. Exceptional communication skills for diverse forms of correspondence and negotiations are essential. Previous experience in conducting grievance hearings and/or arbitration proceedings will be highly regarded. Candidates with knowledge of labour-management negotiations and direct experience in the health sector will have a competitive edge.
