Today we are seeking a University Librarian to provide enthusiastic leadership to influence and drive the future direction of the Angus L. Macdonald Library, fostering a collaborative learning community and cultivating curiosity and graduates who understand the importance of Library programs and research.
The Angus L. Macdonald Library has supported the academic ideals and vision of StFX through its library resources, programs and services since its opening in 1965. The Library houses a diverse collection of approximately 300,000 volumes, provides access to a variety of databases, facilities for digitization, university archives, a rare book room, and a unique Celtic collection.
Reporting to the Academic Vice-President & Provost, the University Librarian provides overall Library leadership and delivers exceptional service to staff, students and faculty. The University Librarian develops and inspires staff, champions Library services best practices and leads Library budgeting and long term planning efforts in support of the University’s Strategic Plan. The University Librarian serves as a member of Senate, as the University’s Copyright Officer and works in close partnership with other academic services. The University Librarian is the StFX representative to NOVANET, the Council of Atlantic University Libraries (CAUL), and the Canadian Research Knowledge Network.
The successful candidate has an ALA-accredited MLIS, MLS, or related degree, with demonstrated librarian leadership experience preferably within an academic institution. The University Librarian is an inspirational and collaborative leader and has proven experience leading through change. The successful candidate has a passion for innovation, an awareness for emerging trends and has a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion within the Library and wider university community.
