Atlantic Poultry Incorporated (API) is a significant supplier of high-quality feed, chicks, fresh eggs and poults to Atlantic Canada’s poultry industry. Formed in 2012, API is a private company and is proudly owned and operated by Atlantic Canadian farmers. An integrated agricultural producer, marketer and distributor, API has operations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
The API brand is defined by integrity, sustainability and a strong sense of quality, purpose and alignment among partners – whether farmers, processors, or distributors. Headquartered in Port Williams, Nova Scotia, which is an hour from Halifax and an international airport, API employs approximately 170 people directly through its hatcheries, farms, grading station and feed division. API also owns and operates Country Ribbon Inc., with approximately 350 employees who take great pride in providing customers with nutritious and delicious fresh and frozen chicken products produced from its farm, feed mill, and processing facilities, located in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President Poultry Operations is responsible for the strategic direction of Atlantic Poultry Incorporated’s poultry operations, including fostering a competitive, self-reliant, profitable and sustainable operation. The incumbent leads the company’s strategy for poultry operations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. This individual assists in the development of policies, practices and programs for operations, organizational structure and employment, while enforcing compliance with all labour laws and any relevant legislation governing farm sites and the industry.
The successful candidate has a Bachelor of Science in agriculture or other related degree and a minimum of seven-years managing farms, leading teams and being accountable for operational, financial and environmental performance. They have knowledge and experience in poultry operations (layers, broilers or turkey) and excel at leading multi-disciplinary teams. The incumbent is a passionate people leader who fosters best practices in animal husbandry, decision-making, innovation and commercial success. Adept at business, supply chain and fiscal management, the incumbent has demonstrated experience in leading strategy and planning and measuring outcomes. Strong organizational and environmental awareness and quality and risk management practices is required.
